2002 Annual Residential

For this year’s residential we used the Benburb Conference Centre because of the friendliness of the staff and the relaxed atmosphere.

The Friday night social evening went well with everyone introducing themselves and giving some background about themselves or the area they lived in. Two of the women, from different areas and backgrounds entertained everyone with continuous jokes and stories and others sang songs.

On Saturday we had two workshops:

  1. Abortion North and South of the Border and details of the laws set out by the government were outlined by the Family Planning Association and the difference women from mainland Britain and Northern Ireland encounter if an abortion becomes necessary.

  2. End of Life Decisions – This workshop had to be cancelled because of the doctor becoming ill and in its place we had a workshop on Breast Cancer and Screening.

During the week-end the women from Sydenham organized cash-prize bingo the proceeds of which went for special events organized by Women’s Information Group during the year.

On Saturday night we had a trip into Blackwatertown to relax, enjoy ourselves and try to win the quiz ‘Take Your Pick.’

On Sunday Morning we had an evaluation of the week-end and Women’s Information Group’s Annual General Meeting. Following a beautiful 3 course lunch we headed back to Belfast.
